Loo Niva Child Concern Group, in collaboration with the Konjyosom Rural Municipality’s Children and Women Section, Area Police Office, and Yuwalaya, organized a powerful series of interaction and discussion sessions across secondary schools of Konjyosom from June 11 to 27, 2025. The program engaged 502 participants from 6 secondary schools, including students, teachers, parents, and community leaders, to raise awareness and take collective action to end child marriage.
Moderated by Sapana Tamang, Secretary of the Local Child Rights Committee (LCRC), the sessions explored the causes, consequences, and legal implications of child marriage in the local context. Participants explored the situations of the village that are the social pressures, economic factors, and misutilization of social media that perpetuate early marriage. They also learned the skills and knowledge on support mechanisms for vulnerable children in the training.
Mr. Satya Narayan Dangol, Police In-Charge of Konjyosom, presented Nepal’s legal provisions against child marriage and emphasized the importance of confidential reporting via hotline numbers 100 or 1098. Planning Officer Mr. Chitra Dev Dahal led open discussions between students and guardians, including powerful testimonies from parents who married young. Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Gopal Prasad Dulal described child marriage as a “social disease” and underscored the need for unified community efforts. The event concluded with a collective recommendation to form ward-level committees and conduct regular awareness sessions on sexual and reproductive health to help eradicate child marriage at the grassroots level.
