From June 26–29, 2025, Loo Niva, jointly with Patan CBR, hosted a four-day residential workshop on Psychosocial Helping Skills at Hotel Marigold, Nagarkot. Designed under the REAP initiative (Safeguarding Future: Improved Right to Education and Protection of Vulnerable Children in Nepal 2025–2028), the workshop brought together 22 frontline workers, including child welfare officers, school nurses, champion teachers, and child rights advocates from Mahankal and Konjyosom Rural Municipalities. The goal: to enhance their capacity to understand and respond to the psychosocial needs of orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children in their communities.
The training emphasized practical learning through role plays, counseling simulations, and self-regulation exercises. Participants gained critical skills in early identification, documentation, ethical care, and referral of psychosocial cases affecting school-aged children.
In addition, the workshop featured expert facilitation from psychologists and social workers, who guided participants through real-life case studies and community-based approaches to emotional first aid. Sessions on building trust, active listening, and cultural sensitivity further deepened participants' ability to engage with children empathetically and respectfully.
Beyond skills development, the workshop fostered a strong network of community actors committed to creating inclusive, emotionally supportive environments. As one participant reflected, “This training has opened our eyes to the emotional struggles of children—and how we can better support them.”
