Loo Niva organized an "Interaction on Child-Friendly Environment for ECD Teachers" on November 8, 2023, at the Mahankal rural municipality and on 28 November at Konjyosom rural municipality. The interaction aimed to provide valuable resources and mentorship to ECD teachers, with a focus on supporting child rights and advancing educational programs. 18 teachers from Konjyosom and 19 teachers from Mahankal participated in the interaction.
Ms. Petra Damen, a volunteer from Finland facilitated the interaction with an introduction to the critical importance of Early Childhood Education (ECD). She highlighted the rapid brain development that occurs in children aged 0-5, emphasizing this period's pivotal role in laying the foundation for the future. Investing in ECD, she argued, is an investment in a child's future, facilitating a smoother transition to formal education and fostering long-term motivation. Drawing insights from the Finnish National Core Curriculum for Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) 2022, Ms. Damen advocated for viewing the child as an active learner who explores the environment through play. The interaction highlighted a holistic framework that nurtures the growth and development of young minds. The integration of social interactions and emotional expression formed the groundwork for social and intellectual development was discussed pinning the balance in freedom with responsibilities, recognizing the significance of repetition, and creating a safe, organized space, etc.
Mr. Bishnu Prasad Acharya, Education Officer, Konjyosom expressed that it was an insightful interaction where the interaction has highlighted the use of local materials in teaching which is appreciative as we lack the resources sometimes. Teachers actively participated in hands-on activities, creating ECD materials using local resources. The workshop concluded with a reminder of the importance of creating child-friendly environments to support holistic child development. Participants were encouraged to explore the provided resources and actively incorporate the discussed principles into their teaching practices, ensuring a brighter and more nurturing educational experience for young learners in Mahankal Rural Municipality.
